Uniquely IIFA, Uniquely Singapore...

Indian Cinema lands in the roaring city of Uniquely Singapore – a destination as colourful and warm as Indian Cinema itself. A contingent of over 450 stars, celebrities, cricketers, industrialists and government leaders were present at the 3-day weekend.

In 2004, the IIFA Management showcased the IIFA Foundation Celebrity Football Match. Held at the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore, the team lineup comprised the glitterati of Indian Cinema and Singapore’s football fraternity.

The IIFA Forum in 2004 drew a full house. Hosted in partnership with the Media Development Authority, Singapore, the focus was on ‘Globalisation of Indian Cinema’ and ‘Co-Production between India and Singapore’.

Singapore experienced the glittering World Premiere of Mani Ratnam’s ‘Yuva’, in Hindi and ‘Aayitha Ezhuthu’ in Tamil. Giving the world a taste of true Indian Cinema – regional, and at the same time, global.

As the day dawned on 22nd May, the anticipation for the 5th IIFA Awards filled the air. The Singapore Indoor Stadium was taken over by stars. And fans waiting to catch a glimpse of their heroes. With the theme for the evening set as ‘Celebrating the Superstars of Indian Cinema’, the performances were a tribute to the greats of Indian Cinema, past and present. As the world witnessed the beaming awardees walk away with top honours, Indian Cinema shone at its brightest.

Encore in South Africa...

In 2003, IIFA returned to South Africa. This time, the sun-kissed shores of Johannesburg was the destination.

For the IIFA Forum, Ramesh Sippy, Smita Thackeray, Kunal Dasgupta, Shyam Shroff and Harish Dayani sat together with moderator Vir Sanghvi and discussed piracy and explored new revenue streams for the industry.

The first-ever IIFA Foundation Charity Celebrity Cricket Match was organized at the Centurion Grounds. It was supported by the entire IIFA contingent, consisting of Indian and South African film stars, celebrities, cricketers, government leaders, IIFA’s South African partners and Indian and South African fans.

The IIFA Awards ceremony shone bright at the Dome at Northgate. The evening was a stunning showcase of talent and Indian charisma. Hosts Anil Kapoor and Diya Mirza swept the audience with charm. Las Ketchup, Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Shilpa Shetty, Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan and Ajay Jadeja set a scorching pace with their electrifying performances.

With the light of a million stars shining down upon it, this edition of the IIFA Awards 2003 closed.
